JIS Creators Challenge

#JISCreatorsChallenge 


Competition Description : 


The #JISCreatorsChallenge is an initiative developed by the Social Media Department at the Jamaica Information Service (JIS). This initiative serves as the Special Project Initiative in alignment with the agency’s efforts to increase awareness of their brand. 


Video Categories : 


  1. Adventures in Jamaica - Show us your favourite spots for adventure filled weekends with friends and family – must include Jamaica’s Natural Wonders and or Hidden Gems.


  1. Art and Craftsmanship in Jamaica - Feature local artisans and their craftsmanship.


  1. Jamaican Cuisine: A Culinary Adventure - Feature Jamaican dishes, share the secret behind their flavour and the history of the dish.


  1. Long Time We Nuh Have No Nice Time - Showcase various celebrations such as Independence Day, and Reggae Sumfest. Capture the joy, colours, and energy of these events and speak to the aspects that entice you most.


  1. Out of Many, One People” - Highlight various aspects of several cultures that have contributed to Jamaican culture. 


Timeline :


The competition will span 8 weeks (Feb. 12 - March 18), inclusive of submissions, shortlisting and the winner announcement and will be conducted in two stages : 


  1. Submission of Entrant Video via publishing to their respective platform 

  2. Publication of Entrant Videos on JIS Instagram Page 


NB. Both stages are accompanied by a shortlisting process. 

Competition Policies : 


Entrants will be asked to publish a 1 minute (maximum) video demonstrating why they love Jamaica, after which their videos will be marked according to the rubric listed and the top 6-12 videos will be published.


These videos will be published across all JIS platforms.


The engagement amassed on each platform will be taken into consideration and shortlisted entrants will qualify for the top three prizes.


Video submissions must be original. 


Competition Rubric Simplified 


Videos will be judged over a score of 50 points on the following criteria:


1. Content (10 pts max)

  1. Use of theme

  2. Use of Jamaican Colours 

  3. Use of dialect 

  4. Quality of Information Presented 


2. Creativity (15 pts max)

  1. Originality of Idea

  2. Does the video capture attention ? Is it memorable ?

  3. Quality of Video : 

  • Audio : V/O & Music

  • Transitions 

  • Visuals

  • Captions - Titles


3. Duration (10 pts max)

  1. Use of Time 


4. Engagement (15 pts max)

  1. Shares

  2. Likes 

  3. Comments

Rules: 


  1. This contest is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Instagram. 


  1. All entries should begin or end with a five second title screen to include the following information : 

  • Name of Entrant 

  • Title of Video

  • Total Running Time 

  • Parish of Entrant


  1. The length of the video should not exceed 60 seconds (one minute), not including a five second title screen. 


  1. Each entrant must submit a video focusing on why they love Jamaica through one of the five categories. 


  1. Entries must be posted on their respective social media platforms (either Instagram, Facebook, TikTok  or Twitter.) before 12PM on the 18th of March. 


Music allowed via Instagram Reels or TikTok, can be utilised. 


No copyrighted materials (music, images, video clips, etc.) may be used for this contest unless you own the copyright or have a license to use the material for this contest. 


Written permission must be obtained and provided upon request for all copyrighted materials.


  1. There is no entry fee.


  1. The only compensation for submitting a video is the opportunity to be awarded a prize if the entry wins.


  1. Ownership of the underlying intellectual property of the project remains with the entrant, with the following exceptions : 


Entrants grant The Jamaica Information Service the right to use, reproduce, reprint, distribute, perform, and/or display the entrant’s project video without further compensation or notification to the entrant.


Entrants grant The Jamaica Information Service the right to use their names, photographs, statements, quotes, testimonials, and video submissions for advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes without notification or further compensation.


Content must comply with all local and national laws of Jamaica. 


Content must not : 

1) promote illegal behaviour; 

2) support racial, religious, sexual or other invidious prejudice; 

3) advocate sexual or violent exploitation; 

4) violate rights established by law or agreement; 

5) invade the privacy of any person; or 6) be otherwise inappropriate as determined by The Jamaica Information Service in its sole and conclusive determination.



Entrants agree to be bound by the official contest rules and decisions of the judges.
